I was getting ready for a photoshoot when this little red bump appeared on my chin few days before. Arrrggghhh. Must be the time of the month when my female hormones go crazy causing this unacceptable breakout (haha, blame the hormones again).
Zit, pimple or spot – 1% germ and 99% attention. Experts say it’s caused by excess oil which clogged the pores so red spot appears (worse case: red spotS). It could also be a result of a harsh product we use on the face or an environmental change. (Whatever). No matter how much we conceal it, it still shows that tiny little bump. Thank God for photoshop’s tricks but in reality, the spot’s still there.
I’m sure all of us experience having red spot(s) in our lives. One tiny thing could be the centre of our whole world’s attention as it seems to be the most annoying thing on earth. I recall this silly moment I had last year when I just moved here in South of France. Aside from the lifestyle, language and culture, my skin also underwent some adjustments. In the first three months of my official migration in France, zits appeared on my T-zone. When one’s gone, a new one would appear until I found myself buying different zit-killing products but none seemed to cooperate! Giselle Sanchez also offered a specialised treatment cream when we were hanging out in Amsterdam last November 2011.
One day, I almost cried and told my husband (who’s my fiancé then), “I don’t want to go out. I have pimples”. (Silly, silly, silly). Thank God that it was just a period of breakouts and my skin’s back to normal (as my HMUA friend would call it – skin-on-the-go or low maintenance skin. Kudos to our genes).
Zits do come and go. Pimples do remind me of the negative elements we obviously didn’t wish in our lives. It could be results of a wrong decision, unpleasant past, people gossiping about you and the list goes on… Sadly, we mostly give those things 99% of our attention. We either want to hide or quit. We are losing our focus on what’s really important because of that 1% germ that caused this whole breakout-i-don’t-want-to-go-out attitude.
Few years ago when I was a teenager, Clean and Clear had a TVC with the following dialogue –
Girl 1: Hey, you’ve got a pimple..
Girl 2: Oh it’s just a pimple..no big deal.
Girl 1: No big deal?
Girl 2: Yah, no big deal. Just keep your face clean…
Hope I got the exact words right! But let’s focus on the main gist. It’s just a pimple. It’s just a mistake which you should learn from. It’s just a part of your past and you can now move on. It’s just people talking negatively about you but who cares? It’s no big deal. Just keep your hearts, thoughts and intentions clean. Concealing may not be the solution, face it. You can be somewhere you didn’t expect you will be at and may face a whole world of adjustments. But don’t let negative thoughts draw out the best in you. Do not hide, never quit. If we apply some hazel gel or benzoyl peroxide over the spots, we can also apply faith, hope and love into our lives. Blemishes might still be there but here’s some good news – skin always develop new cells :-)
