As good as they look like, these cakes taste even better. Divine. Lucious. C’est tres bien.
One cannot imagine that these cakes were made by someone who had no previous baking experience and thought that all of things a woman can do in the kitchen, baking was not in her list until she was inspired to satisfy her sweet tooth cravings.
Irene had her first piece of red velvet cake that I ordered for my husband’s birthday last year (it was Mark’s first time too). Sharing that heavenly masterpiece triggered her cravings. Since red velvet cake is not commonly available on the local patiserrie but only through special orders (my search for a red velvet cake in the French Riviera pointed me to another talented baker, Loremi Cedo, based in the Cannes – yes, I carried the big box of surprise all the way from this city known for its star-studded red carpet down to our previous apartment in Nice). The yummy moisture, flavour and experience inspired my cousin-in-law’s wife or Ate Vhai in short (that’s how we call her aside from Ate Irene) in making one. With a completely new mindset, she became passionate in baking and we witnessed how her skills evolved and improved since she started last September 2012.
She made her very first version of red velvet cake for her youngest daughter’s first birthday, which actually turned pink. It wasn’t perfect but making this cake along with Nicole, her five-year old daughter (who just turned six yesterday) was a perfect mommy-daughter bonding. Moments like this make me want to have a baby soon as I imagine having that kind of bonding with my daughter too in the future.
She then ventured into offering her cakes to her family then friends and called her start-up home-based business, My Sweet Tooth Cravings (MSTC). She doesn’t mind working in the middle of the night just to prepare the orders whilst you and I are asleep. Given the passion and effort exerted, not long til she tempted and made others crave for her sweet creation carefully packed in colourful boxes and ribbons.
She created and continuously creates cute cupcakes (as seen on the photo above). Oh I wanna have one now! Can I make it two?! …or three?!
She also perfected Pinoy flavoured cakes such as pandan, ube, langka, mango and even brazo de mercedes roll (you must try her leche flans too!).
Having three kids, she attended an intensive one-day baking course in Paris with Chef Pino where busy moms like her can learn enhanced baking techniques. You just looked at the french cakes she made during this course. Yummy, eh?!
She also shares her passion and knowledge of baking not just to adults but also to kids. See her ‘seasonal assistants’ or shall I call them her apprentices?!
That’s My Sweet Tooth Cravings for you.
