I know… It’s not that easy, eh? No matter how we spent our weekend, relaxing or working, it’s still hard to get up on a Monday morning! The alarm clock becomes our frenemy. But c’est la vie so let’s just shoo away those negative blues and start our day right. Here are few tips before going to work (in my case, getting out of my pyjamas since I work from home):
ALARM TRICK. Set your alarm clock thirty minutes prior to the actual time that you have to get up. This gives you excuses for losing at “five minutes more, five minutes more…” morning battles and pressing the snooze button few times without getting up later than you’re supposed to. It works for me ;)
FIRST THINGS FIRST. I used to be guilty of checking Instagram, FB notifications, SMS and worse, work emails as soon as I wake up. Wrong, wrong, wrong. I downloaded the Bible app in my iPhone so I get to read the Verse of the Day then I start a little morning prayer by simply thanking God for another day, a beautiful day.
MORNING CUDDLES. My husband actually leaves the house before my senses are fully awake, so this goes before my bible reading… ok ok… before the alarm trick. The best thing in the morning is waking up next to your loved one/s and studies show that hugging (especially in the morning) is one of the key factors in a long lasting relationship (read more here). Same goes with kissing – studies show that those who kiss their partner goodbye each morning live years longer than those who don’t (read more here).
HYDRATE. Drink 2-3 glasses of water, it revs up your metabolism. It’s also a medical prescription in Japan to drink water immediately after waking up in the morning. Others use it as part of their weight loss program, who wants to wake up sexier? Moi!
BASIC HYGIENE 101. Oh you know these – shower, brushing our teeth, morning routines, yknow! Others skip this, particularly showering in the morning due to the cold weather, rushing to work or whatsoever, but guys, aside from hygienic reasons (and for heaven’s sake), read the seven benefits of showering in the morning here (interesting one – it increases fertility :p)
BREAKFAST. Do not forget the most important meal of the day so that you’re still alive and kicking until your lunch break. Want to control your weight? Eat breakfast!
Not sure if you are in the mood for Monday morning fitness, I’m not. I’d rather go to the gym later the day or the following day.
Anyway, as people of the twenty first century, we multi task, we work harder to keep up in this demanding world. So don’t forget to start your day right and shoo all those blues away.
